[Ecuador] Cuenca Pole Studio — Samsara Pole & Yoga

bright, friendly, and clean

Today I attended my first pole dance class in Cuenca. The pole studio I found is called Samsara Pole & Yoga. It’s a nice, warm, and clean studio in a good location. The founder is Vale, she told me that she learned pole dance in Medellín, Columbia, and came back to Cuenca to open this studio 4 years ago. Vale is cute and super friendly, full of positive energy. The plan I bought is 25 USD for 4 classes (in one month).

“In here, everything is possible. You can (do it).”

First Class — Exotic Pole Trucos (Exotic Pole Tricks)(2023/01/06)

Learned a lot of new concepts today!

  1. Exotic Pole Styles:
Vale told me that there are several different styles of Exotic Pole, including Old School, Russian, Corazon, and Flow. This is the piece of information that I couldn’t find clear categories from Google search before. This studio offers classes in Old School and Flow. Meanwhile, Vale’s specialty is in the fusion of Corazon and Flow.
  2. Body weight on toes:
When wearing and dancing in heels, dancers should always put body weights on their toes. Also, dancers should always maintain their feet in an arch position like in ballet.
  3. No use of knee pads & correct skill to use muscles:
Old School exotic pole requires avoiding wearing knee pads because it has more techniques on the pole. This is different from what I’ve danced before, Flow, which always allows dancers to wear knee pads to protect this specific part of their bodies. Today I learned that the correct way of using muscles in Old School pole dance is to tense your core and leg muscles to keep your knees away from the floor. So your knees don’t get hurt. Totally new knowledge to me!
